Processing Motion Experiment - Wandering Blossoms

Processing Experiment Wandering BlossomsI truly am loving how I can take a piece of code and begin to have it exist in various mediums. This experiment was actually posted to my Vimeo account quite a while ago, but I wanted to output this project as a vector piece as well. I actually think my previous project would be ended up as a good candidate for vector output as well - I may go back and add that at a later time. This project was just another test on playing with motion preceding my knowledge of the noise() method. Looking back, a similar look in motion could have been achieved with far fewer lines of code. Nonetheless, I think the final result ended up being quite nice.

I hope to continue to have the time to post these projects. I feel as though I am (slowly) getting a grasp on how this whole Processing thing works. My goal is to cross-pollinate any future Processing projects with Flash/Flex projects. I have a few ideas on how that may just happen.

Experience Poster Project

Experience Poster

After looking around at this blog for a while, I really got the impression that it had been stuck in a rut for a while. So, after a bit of pondering, I thought it may be fun to push a micro-viral poster project. If you have been reading this blog for a while, you may remember the 1 iPod project I did a couple years ago. The whole idea was to create a downloadable and easily printable poster for the public to distribute in any way they saw fit. I thought it would be fun to do something along those lines for the presidential primary…

If you have not done so already, please download one of the posters. Feel free to modify as you see fit - that goes for Clinton supporters as well. I am much more interested in seeing how people use these posters and how they are distributed than anything else. If you do participate in this project and put these posters up somewhere, make sure to contact me. Also, if you like this idea, make sure to email your friends the link and submit it to your favorite social bookmarking sites. I would be so cool to see this get to the front page of Digg and/or Reddit.

Remember, do not be a jerk with this. That is not what this project is about.

Making a Reusable Cup Sleeve

Cup SleeveIf you have spent any time talking with me, you are probably well aware that I am putting significant time into lowering my environmental footprint. This is a pretty common sentiment nowadays, with everyone taking a different path to achieve their goal. One day, on a walk with my wife after getting a remarkably hot cup of coffee, I took notice of the generic cardboard cup sleeve on my cup. It dawned on me that, along with the cup, there was no reason why a sleeve to insulate your hand had to be disposable. While it is easy to find a non-disposable cup (duh), I have yet to run into a reusable cup sleeve. I soon thought, why the hell not make my own? Then I thought, why not share the template so anyone can make one (hopefully better than mine)?

This Week’s Weekly Links of the Week - Week 71

Surprisingly, there are very few political articles in this week’s collection of links. You would think Iowa and New Hampshire would have dominated, but they didn’t. Consider this the one article on the internet where you can take a breath from politics.

Enjoy the links.

1 iPod - A Grassroots Project

Call me cynical, but throughout the years I have begun to get quite turned off from the holidays. From my observations, this time of the year has turned into more of a consumer/corporate event than anything resembling holiday cheer. Last Saturday I decided to take a couple hours out of my day to try to put things into perspective. We all enjoy our luxuries, and we all enjoy giving certain luxuries to our loved ones. Nonetheless, consider what the money used to purchase a moderately priced luxury such as an iPod could do for the most impoverished in a developing nation. During this holiday season, I decided to design some posters and release printable PDFs on this very subject. My hope is this will get me, and hopefully you, to think about what our money could accomplish if spent elsewhere…
