Time Displacement Video

Posted on 22 June, 2007 at 5:00pm with 14 comments

I usually do not post YouTube videos on Some Random Dude, but this definitely warranted an exception. I am unsure of the method towards this effect, but it is one of the creepiest, yet visually stunning treatments to video I have seen since those video sequences The Matrix made famous (and subsequently ran into the ground). This is well worth a view… Not to mention a second.

Hey Stumblers, thanks for coming on by. If you liked this article, you might like two video projects I did here and here.

Isometric Actionscript Motion Experiment

Posted on 2 March, 2007 at 1:08pm with 6 comments

I have been seen quite a bit of interesting work done with isometry in Flash and I finally got the chance to play around with it myself. I frankly was amazed at how easy putting an isometric grid was – the math is very basic. What is so cool is that after the basics are laid down, some really interesting things can be done with an isometric scene. While the motion treatment below is extremely simple, I really do enjoy it.

The swf is a little processor intensive, so you may not want to keep your browser on this page for too long unless you enjoy slow-cooking your computer. As always, your thoughts and comments are greatly welcome and appreciated.

Ridiculously Addictive Actionscript Motion Experiment

Posted on 20 February, 2007 at 9:32pm with 4 comments

UPDATE: The FLA actually works as advertised now.

I try to take some time out to work on math-based motion now and then since it is not always my strongest point. I have become so enamored with the Tween class that those sorts of techniques have atrophied a bit. For the past few weeks, I have been working on micro-projects – I am still unsure why it took me this long to start putting them on the blog.

This little motion treatment is pretty basic, but highly addictive to watch. I have caught myself staring at this for 10 minutes at a time. Honestly, it is quite hypnotic. The math is not too difficult, but I am still not entirely happy with the motion – it could still use a bit of tweaking. Still, I thought it was good enough to share. The length, count, colors and motion are entirely random, so feel free to reload the page plenty of times.

The code is far from pretty, but I really do not see the use in cleaning up little tests such as these. Nonetheless, if you are interested, the zipped-up FLA is available to download. Any comments/thoughts on how to improve it are very welcome.
