Comment Love for March 2008

Posted on 2 April, 2008 at 10:24am with 3 comments

It was another bitter-sweet month for this blog. March 2008 had the highest total of return visitors ever and RSS subscriptions are continuing to increase at a healthy rate. Still, March had only 22 comments which ended up totaling just $11.00. All $11.00 was donated to Carbonfund.

With this month’s contribution, we offset 5,680 miles driven from a car with the average miles per gallon (25.2 mpg) or roughly 2 tons of C02 according to Carbonfund’s calculator.

I have no doubt that these lack of comments have a lot to do with the fact that the format of posts has had a less open-ended format than usual. Unfortunately, this stems from a lack of time. Still, if you like this program, please let your friends about this feature. Hopefully we will hit something closer to $50 soon.

Comment Love for January 2008

January 2008 was a great month for traffic, however the comments are not keeping up. January had 37 comments which ended up totaling $18.50. All $18.50 was donated to Carbonfund.

With this month’s contribution, we offset 9,554 miles driven from a car with the average miles per gallon (25.2 mpg) or 3.36 tons of C02 according to Carbonfund’s calculator. We still are far from the $50 limit, but eliminating close to 10,000 miles of driving is not too shabby.

I am definitely back into the swing of things and will continue to put out 3 posts a week. I am really trying to concentrate on one quality article each week which can be a challenge at times. Luckily, February has the potential to be open for some writing and finalizing of projects. Hopefully that will bring more comments…

Comment Love for March 2007

Comment Love for March was a bit of a disappointment. March ended up being the largest month of traffic ever for this blog, but the amount of donations still ended up being lower than average. I think this has a lot to do with the extremely low amount of full-fledged articles written this month – I am going to have to pick up the pace. Ironically, the daily post method is bringing significantly more traffic to the site, but with less time to devote to longer articles, there is actually less participation. Go figure.

Still, the comments for March generated $31.00 to KQED. I am really going to put more effort into getting more vetted articles out from this point on, even if I have to miss a day (or two) of posting. I have a feeling this is going to really help out, please share your feelings if you feel otherwise. At this point, the only break from blogging I have is during the weekend. After a few months of experience, I have learned quickly that the weekend does not end up being a good time to write articles. If you are around my age (or older), then you are well aware that the weekend is anything but a break from work – it is just a break from the work at your job. So, there may be slightly fewer articles during the week to hopefully open up some time to get greater substance and, hopefully, more comments.

Here’s hoping that our fellow Comment Love partner ended up being more fruitful for March.

Comment Love for January 2007

This month’s Comment Love was well timed since KQED is currently having its pledge drive. If you are a listener of public radio you almost assuredly know of (and detest) the pledge drives. Mind you, we do not seem to complain much when we basically get ad-free radio with top-notch content. The pledge drive is part of the game – the double-edged sword if you will.

Well, this humble site gave its part to the cause by donating $38.00 for the month of January. Mind you, this is a small piece of the total amount needed for this drive, but every little bit helps. And it is all thanks to you. Once again, I want to thank all the frequent (and not-too frequent) commenters on this site. I get more positive feedback on this Comment Love feature than anything else in the site. So I guess I am at least doing one thing right. We still have not had a $50 month yet and I am really hoping that will be the case very soon. If we start running into a string of maxed out months, I will raise the cap if that is any incentive.

If you are a public radio listener, I highly suggest donating to KQED or your local public radio station. They deserve our help.
