A long while back, I released a layout organizer library for Flash. The whole project was essentially an experiment-turned-released-code-collection and, as expected, there have been some growing pains going forward. I have been taking the time to rethink portions of the library and try to clean up and extend its functionality. One big push forward was the introduction of 3d layouts — however, it did not quite fit in with the prior structure. Well, I am very close to completing a fairly thorough rewrite of the library, which will be released in a less haphazard way. Very early on in the process of setting up the new Some Random Dude, I mentioned that all work done on and for this site would be made available as open source and/or free. It is something that I feel very strongly about and am deeply committed to following through on for as long as this blog is active. As a small first gesture, I am offering up the theme used for the Some Random Dude Tumblr site. Feel free to use it, alter it and improve upon it as you see fit. As many of you know, Some Random Dude was redesigned earlier this month. The redesign of this blog was a tremendous effort that took months of part-time work to get from inception to launch. The process was overly-arduous for a plethora of reasons — I was determined to design and plan in a way that would prolong the longevity of the current site and push off next redesign of this site as long as possible. In doing so, it strengthened my belief of four basic tenets when going through the redesign of a blog or any other content-driven site. I have tried to apply each four of these rules to the new redesign which have already made the site much more manageable and enjoyable and worthwhile.
