CommentLuv (Quietly) Implemented

Posted on 11 April, 2008 at 3:16pm with 34 comments

To go along with the Comment Love program, I have tried to add a bit more incentive for commenting. Last week, I implemented the CommentLuv plugin. I must say, the whole thing took no time at all – it was quite a breeze. There are so many ideas and pieces of functionality that I would like to implement on this site, but when I do not even have enough time to write real articles, I have a hard time trying to bite off anything of that scale. Still, slowly but surely, I am trying to add pieces to increase participation.

There is going to be a special month of Comment Love coming up, so I hope this extra addition will help stir up conversation.

Comment Love for March 2008

Posted on 2 April, 2008 at 10:24am with 3 comments

It was another bitter-sweet month for this blog. March 2008 had the highest total of return visitors ever and RSS subscriptions are continuing to increase at a healthy rate. Still, March had only 22 comments which ended up totaling just $11.00. All $11.00 was donated to Carbonfund.

With this month’s contribution, we offset 5,680 miles driven from a car with the average miles per gallon (25.2 mpg) or roughly 2 tons of C02 according to Carbonfund’s calculator.

I have no doubt that these lack of comments have a lot to do with the fact that the format of posts has had a less open-ended format than usual. Unfortunately, this stems from a lack of time. Still, if you like this program, please let your friends about this feature. Hopefully we will hit something closer to $50 soon.

Guest Writers Coming To This Blog During My Absence. Want To Be One of Them?

Posted on 27 February, 2008 at 10:03am with no comments

So it is looking very likely that there will be some guest posts while I take care of business (no pun intended). The two folks that will hopefully be writing articles will be a significant upgrade in quality from the content you have come to expect here. I would not be surprised if I come back to emails asking me to just let them write from now on…

If anyone else is interested in writing some guest posts for this blog, please let me know. If possible, please send me some examples of articles you have written and I will get back to you as promptly as can be expected from a person with horrible time management skills.

This subject actually brings a large issue… Are you as readers interested in seeing posts from other writers on a permanent basis? I feel, at times, that this blog is a study in megalomania – perhaps other voices would add to the quality and diversity of this blog. Lend me your opinions.

Blogging Schedule Slowdown (Again)

Posted on 25 February, 2008 at 10:17am with 4 comments

I am not even sure if anyone cares about these updates, but I thought I would keep readers notified nonetheless…

Working for yourself tends to create a slightly more sporadic schedule – everyone knows that as did I when I decided to go down this route. The problem is, my time management still has not elevated to the level it should be in order for me to keep my blog updates regular during high-stress periods. Well, I am most likely going to be in that position for a few weeks as I transition into a long-term contract. I have been trying to keep things up, but as you can tell for the past couple weeks, I have not been doing too strong of a job. So I am going to quit pretending and just give a shout-out that posts may be a little less frequent for a while.

One of these days, I will grow up and learn how to manage time better. Until then, I will be posting news like this from time to time.

Comment Love for January 2008

Posted on 4 February, 2008 at 11:24am with 6 comments

January 2008 was a great month for traffic, however the comments are not keeping up. January had 37 comments which ended up totaling $18.50. All $18.50 was donated to Carbonfund.

With this month’s contribution, we offset 9,554 miles driven from a car with the average miles per gallon (25.2 mpg) or 3.36 tons of C02 according to Carbonfund’s calculator. We still are far from the $50 limit, but eliminating close to 10,000 miles of driving is not too shabby.

I am definitely back into the swing of things and will continue to put out 3 posts a week. I am really trying to concentrate on one quality article each week which can be a challenge at times. Luckily, February has the potential to be open for some writing and finalizing of projects. Hopefully that will bring more comments…
