This issue is somewhat off topic for this site, but it is too important not to bring up. There are more and more signs that Net Neutrality is losing support in US governmental circles. Recently, there has been a very good discussion on this blog about free speech – specifically on the internet. Net Neutrality would ensure that free speech and access to information would be safeguarded for all users (at least in the US). Without Net Neutrality, large telecoms could essentially decide what users can and cannot view – the consequences of this are potentially crippling.

My Favorite Typography Blogs
Posted on 25 June, 2007 at 1:06pm with 2 comments
It has been a (very long) while since I written about design at all on this blog. In order to ease myself back into the design subject, I thought I would post some of my favorite typography blogs that I have found. I have come across some pretty hot typefaces through my browsing these sites – I know we are always itching to find that font family that will allow us to default back to Helvetica/Garamond. Font design is such an amazing craft in my opinion, that I enjoy looking at new typographic designs/trends whether I am looking for a new font or not.
Here is my list (in no particular order):
- Font Shop: Font Feed
- Typographi
- Type For You
- Mark Simonson
- Daily Type
- Ichy Robot
- Typophile
- Typographer
- Typotect
Please, do add to this list – I am dying to get some new sites to gawk at.
My Divorce With Mint

I do not think many folks will argue that the content on this site has been subpar in the past few months. Sure, I have added a photoblog and Comment Love, but it retrospect, that really is not too significant for that amount of time. I have tons of articles in the queue that are half-written, my hope is those can be finished and published within the coming weeks. My congrats to Shaun Inman for making a truly powerful web statistics package – I just found it a little too powerful…
Design Open Discussion: Advertising on Some Random Dude?
Posted on 1 June, 2007 at 8:43am with 6 comments
I thought this would be a perfect topic for discussion as it is extremely pertinent due to recent events. Over the past couple weeks, I have been approached multiple times about putting advertising on Some Random Dude. I have been very clear about my thoughts on the subject, but I thought it would be even more interesting to hear your thoughts.
I was telling a colleague of mine about the present offers I have been getting and how I would most likely be holding off on them. He suggested that the opportunity for ad revenue could open up an interesting possibility for this community in the form of a community fund. If the community agrees on advertising, then ads will go up. All the money brought in from advertising (after taxes of course) will go back to the community in the way the community desires. This whole method is quite intriguing to me as it is adding a very large democratic element to the regularly closed-door environment of advertising. In addition, the advertising will be directly benefiting all the right people – the folks who bring in the revenue to begin with.
So, I leave this all up to you. Please leave your comments and/or email me directly if you feel it is more appropriate. I think giving the community a say on this topic makes sense in so many different ways. At the very least, I am pretty sure it will open up a lively discussion.

GOOD Magazine Give-Away For June 2007
Posted on 2 July, 2007 at 8:27pm with 5 comments
Well, just as promised, the top commenter for the month of June received a year-long subscription to GOOD magazine. For anyone that frequents this site even in the slightest, I think you know who got it… For those of you who do not know, Kellie is one magazine subscription richer – she has given so much to this blog that this prize does not seem enough. Still, this is the blog’s little way of saying thank you for all the contributions.
So, as you might be able to discern from the title, I am going to keep this up on a monthly basis – as long as people keep commenting. All you have to do is be the top commenter (excluding Kellie) for the month, live in the US or Canada (GOOD does not ship to any other countries) and you will have yourself some very good reading material. This is not a popularity contest – you can vehemently disagree with me all you want. As long as you are the top commenter and have no already gotten a subscription, you will be the big winner.
