Flash Optimization Issues

Well, I’ve received a few healthy criticisms about my XML Flash Slideshow, most of which have to do with the performance. I have to strongly agree with this since I notice my CPU shoots up when viewing the slideshow and it gets really bad if there are multiple slideshows on one page.

I really think I’m going to have to rethink quite a bit of the logic throughout the Actionscript since a lot of the control is done through using ‘onEnterFrame’ instead of ’setInterval’. For me, using the former was much simpler and great just to get something out there and working, but the more I feel like pushing this tool forward to do more things, I want the actual slideshow code to be rock solid in code design and opitimzation.

I’d love to chat to anyone with extensive Actionscript knowledge to see what they have to say about this. If you don’t mind throwing me some advice, by all means, throw me a comment and I’ll email you.

UPDATE:
OK, that was easy. After a little research and some really easy coding, I’ve already done a significant amount to increase the optimization of the Flash Slideshow. I still have to test it in a real-world environment (like this blog), but quite a few of the unneeded looping is gone and that has already made the slideshow run much lighter on the CPU. Very cool.
