Comment Love for April 2009

Posted on 20 April, 2009 at 12:48pm with 6 comments

The last three or four weeks have been pretty quiet on this site. While I have pretty much kept up with the stream posts, the only real post I have put up recently was an apology for the busted server. On top of that, I have been hustling on some really cool work that I hope to publish soon which has cut into my writing time. My hope is all this work will pay off in the next few weeks to come. All that said, the blog still received 44 comments totaling $22.00 of Comment Love. All $22.00 was donated to KQED.

I apologize that it took me so long to get the donation in for the past month. This idea relies completely on the honor system that I am, in fact, making the donations I post. When you see the dollar amount on the top right of the home page, it is implied that I am in fact sending that money over. I will make it a point to be more prompt on this. All that said, I am really happy to announce that TechShots has implemented Comment Love on their site. I highly suggest checking out the blog as it has some great content — I suggest making a few comments while you are at it.

Comment Love for February 2009

Posted on 2 March, 2009 at 12:13pm with 6 comments

With the second month out of the way for the new site, February had 45 comments which ended up totaling just $22.50. All $22.50 was donated to Carbonfund. With this month’s contribution, we offset roughly 6,000 miles driven from a car with the average miles per gallon (25.2 mpg) or roughly 2 tons of C02 according to Carbonfund’s calculator.

I am continuing to bull through fixes and features so we can get into beta as quickly as possible. The good news is, I am close. The bad news is, the list to get out of beta is very long. My hope is by early summer the site will hit 1.0. Until then, please keep commenting and I will keep donating.

Comment Love for January 2009

Posted on 2 February, 2009 at 11:50am with 6 comments

With the first month of the relaunch past us, I am finally getting back into the swing of things and publishing Comment Love contributions for each month. January saw 34 comments totaling $17.00 of Comment Love. All $17.00 was donated to KQED.

I would like to hear if you find these posts useful or would otherwise like to see them omitted. I like to publish them for public record, but they honestly do not offer that much value to the blog in terms of content. Please let me know if you want to see them at the end of each month or would rather have them go away.

Comment Love for July 2008

Posted on 6 August, 2008 at 10:52am with 2 comments

Well, as expected, the posts are not frequent while I work on the redesign of this blog. Surprisingly, last month still had 30 comments – totaling $15.00 of Comment Love. All $15.00 was donated to KQED.

I will be dropping the amount of working hours per week in the next week or two which will help speed up the redesign process. The design is already at the point where I could implement a beta if I was not as concerned about getting all the details right. I hope to write a little about the process in the coming weeks. Thanks to all who have commented even with my lack of updates.

Comment Love for May and June 2008

Posted on 1 July, 2008 at 1:07pm with 4 comments

Well, May and June were supposed to be a big couple months in order to generate enough comments for a special Comment Love project. I dropped the ball – big time. The beginning of May started off really well and then tapered off extremely quickly and I have yet to recover. A couple large projects, a vacation and a continuing battle with burnout have done my blogging in for about a month and a half. I know I will get back on the horse eventually, it just has not happened yet.

All that said, the charities that we were supporting for May and June, the International Rescue Committee’s Iraqi Refugee Program and the Disabled American Veterans Charitable Service Trust were extremely important and I feel extremely guilty that my otherwise unimportant problems got in the way of hitting our goal. Therefore, I decided to donate the maximum amount ($100 to each charity) even though we barely hit half that mark in comments. I really dropped the ball in terms of posting – frankly, I’m surprised we got as much as we did.

The posting frequency will be back up to normal levels soon – hell, just posting this article was a major accomplishment for me in my current state. Ironically, I have been doing a tremendous amount of interesting work that I am really looking forward to sharing. Be on the lookout for posts sooner than later.
