Daily Delicious – Design Books You (and I) Need To Read

Posted on 24 January, 2007 at 11:32pm

I have an excruciatingly hard time just sitting down and reading. Whenever I open up a magazine, it is like I have unleashed a shock-and-awe campaign upon my wife. While I may not know why I do not enjoy reading books, I do know that I should be. If there are any genre of books I should be reading, it would be design-related publications. I personally believe that design theory books are astoundingly educational towards process, concept and execution. Getting the chance to peer into another designer’s head can be extremely valuable. Getting the chance to peer into a great designer’s head is priceless.

Ping Magazine just posted a great article on design books worth reading and if you are interested in design at all, I highly suggest taking their recommendations. Mind you, this is coming from a person who read a total of two books in high school… Whenever I have broken down and opened up the design books I own (yes, I buy many, many books and read basically none of them), it is both an immediate and constant learning process (until I inevitably quit reading halfway through).

I am quite curious how much you readers interact with design publications. Is it fairly common for you to sift through articles or have you never even opened such a book.
