GOOD Magazine Give-Away

Posted on 4 June, 2007 at 10:40am

I think by now many folks that frequent this site know that I am putting a lot of time into clever ways of giving back through this blog. Comment Love has been a lot of fun to keep up, but I really do not want to stop there. A few months ago, I subscribed to GOOD Magazine and have absolutely loved it. For those of you that personally know me, to think that I would actually read a magazine, let alone enjoy it is more than a slight surprise. However, GOOD’s content hits a area of deep passion for myself and I would like to share it with the readers of this site.

Here is GOOD Magazine’s self-description:

While so much of today’s media is taking up our space, dumbing us down, and impeding our productivity, GOOD exists to add value. Through a print magazine, feature and documentary films, original multimedia content and local events, GOOD is providing a platform for the ideas, people, and businesses that are driving change in the world.

Each end of the month, when I post the month’s total Comment Love, I will be giving a year’s subscription to GOOD to the top unique commenter with at least 10 comments – in order to ensure that Kellie does not end up with decades worth of subscriptions. GOOD gives the money for you pay for the subscription straight to a non-profit of your choosing – of course, you will get to choose that non-profit if you are the recipient of the subscription. A subscription to GOOD is not a huge chunk of change and in turn a very well-written magazine will be supported and blog participation will be encouraged.

I highly suggest checking out GOOD’s site and getting a subscription on your own if you have an extra $20 hanging around. If you cannot spare $20, just make sure to comment early and often at this site. Unfortunately, the only other country GOOD can ship to other than the U.S. is Canada – my apologies. Still, do not let that stop you from commenting, I will try to find something as a replacement.

As always, please let me know your thoughts on this. I am trying to continually add things to this site which will create a good (yes, pun intended) reason to participate at this blog.

  • What a generous offer, P.J.

I personally haven’t had a chance to pick up any issue of GOOD thus far — but my interest has been piqued for sure — I’ll definitely consider subscribing.

  • You need to write a legal disclaimer saying that I am not eligible for this contest. Nice offer. However, I think you should have a minimum quota for the person. It would be unfair if the month’s winner only has 3 comments or something insignificant like that.

  • Jon – I highly suggest checking it out. It’s well worth the money.

kellie – Very good point (as always). I have updated the “terms and conditions”. :)

  • To be honest with you, I wouldn’t mind decades worth of GOOD subscriptions. It’s that amazing of a magazine. And a damn well designed one too. I would recommend the magazine to anyone.

Hey look at me! I’m already winning at $1.50. ;-)

  • Yeah, you might as well just tell me the non-profit you want to support ahead of time… This first month is totally in the bag. ;)

  • Thanks PJ, but lets see if someone else will make the $10 quota. Even though I will surely surpass it with my fantastic, awesome, cool blogging abilities, I will forfeit the GOOD magazine subscription to any formidable challenger who makes the minimum amount of comments…unless it’s Wild Guess. In the case that he is 2nd place, I will take back this offer.

Have you decided your stance on advertising?

  • Sounds good kellie.

One clarification however – it’s a 10 comment limit, not $10 dollars. Hopefully we will be able to raise that sooner than later, but this site still is not getting that many comments…

  • Wow – major respect that you’ve got so many good (and generous) ways of giving back through your blog and to charity. I had a good look at the GOOD website (pun kinda intended) and it looks very interesting indeed.

I’m now looking forwards to see what you come up with next :D

  • I love what you are doing for charity through your blog! I’ve never heard of it, thought about it, and I wish more people would do it. I am already a subscriber to GOOD Magazine and like you I am thoroughly impressed. I’ll make sure I read your blog and comment regularly from now on.

  • Thanks Cindy, I really appreciate the kind words and that you’ll be commenting here. :) I hope you end up enjoying the site!
