More Iconic Updates

While it may look like not too much is going on at this site, there’s actually a lot of very small things happening. I have not had the time to devote to a full article (although I have my next big article about 50% written) but I have been working on a refresh of the site as well as releasing a small update to Iconic. The last significant update was when I simultaneously wrote about using embedded fonts for icons and added a font face to the Iconic download. As new icons come to mind or are recommended, I try to add to the set. I have had the chance to grow the collection by three new icons (one with two styles).

Due to the structure of this set, some icons have been tremendously challenging to render out. One icon in particular that caused me trouble was a cloud. Luckily, I found a little inspiration from Jez Burrows. I ended up creating a cloud icon, folder icon (filled and stroked) and a much needed alternate mail icon. The first mail icon was (and still is) simply horrible — I would normally just remove it, but considering how many people use this set now, I am a little cautious to start removing icons some people may be actively using. Below is a preview of the icons.

In the next few weeks, I would actually like to release the Adobe ExtendScripts I use to generate each individual file (all 6000+ of them) for the set. This will likely be what I work on next. Until then, download the updated collection and continue to hit me up if you have ideas on how to add to or improve this icon set.

  1. Did you add the red accents to your color scheme as one of the superficial changes? I don’t remember the red from my last visit, but I like it. I also like the art on the front page. You needed these shot of colors, IMO. I like blogs that are gentle on the eyes, but the unrelieved grey was…unrelieved. Lookin’ good!

  2. First of all, Very interesting work and thanks for sharing it. Just one question, It seems the font doesn’t include all of the icons, for example the control icons (start, stop, next, …), Do I miss something ?
